South
Texas Pintos
was created to
promote, serve,
and offer a venue
to showcase all the wonderful
Painted Horses
that call South Texas home.
Our
first officers were elected in 1985 and we were welcomed as a charter club
of the PINTO HORSE ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA
that same year. STP
hosted its first PtHA
approved show in September of 1985 and the club was off and running (so
to speak).
Although first
known as P.O.S.T. (Pintos Of South Texas), the charter's name was
changed to S.T.P. (South Texas Pintos) shortly
after discovering a name conflict with a pinto car organization.
Over the years,
STP
has been active in various functions for its membership and to promote
the PINTO HORSE
in South Central Texas. S.T.P.
continues to produce and sponsor events such as clinics, trail rides,
team pennings, open all-breed shows, PtHA
approved shows, the South Texas Area Champion Show, and of course, the
largest and richest Pinto futurity in Texas, the Lone
Star Classic Futurity. S.T.P.
has
the honor of having hosted the PtHA National Convention and was the site
for the inaugural induction for the PtHA Hall of Fame. One of the first
inductee's into the PtHA
Hall of Fame was one of our founding members, South Texas' own, Ernestine
Owings.
S.T.P. is
proud of the many honors won by its members over the years.
Honors such as
National Champion, Reserve National Champion and Horse-of-the-Year.
Our Queen candidate, Jennifer Mcdonald, was chosen Miss PtHA
1990-1991 and our Youth Team, consisting of Eric Edling, Ashley Becker,
Destiny Newman, and Megan Kaylor, which won the team tournament in 1995
were the National Champions.
